Is kosher food available?

For our kosher families and visitors, general kosher goods (like kosher hot dogs and pantry staples) are available in most grocery stores. Kosher meat (Glatt kosher) is available at Miles Market by the Hamilton Princess Hotel. If it isn't in the freezer by the salad bar, then ask staff by the fish or meat departments. The symbols we normally see here are below.

There are no specifically kosher kitchens/restaurants on island. The kitchen at the centre is dairy only.

The Tasting Room at Collectors Hill carries Recanati kosher wine and would be happy to deliver or welcome you to their location

We specially order in kosher wine through the Bermuda Wine Concierge, with whom we have a long-standing relationship.

Is there a rabbi on the island?

We have had a visiting Conservative rabbi, Rabbi Harold Berman, who has led our High Holiday services, and we recently welcomed Rabbi Meyer in 2023. We do have our own volunteer Chazzan on-island. Other than high holidays we lead ourselves - including reading Torah. We are a community where everyone pitches in!

What about weddings?

Bermuda is a beautiful place to have a wedding! While we do not have a full-time rabbi on island, there are some members of the community who can officiate a wedding, although a permit needs to be obtained. Couples who wish to bring in their own officiant must coordinate with the Bermuda Registrar General to have the rabbi formally marry you in Bermuda. Please note that the work permit paperwork can take some time to be approved. Contact us for more details; we have experience with this after being here for 30+ years.

What about bar/bat mitzvahs?

Bermuda is a beautiful place to have a bar or bat mitzvah! Our president, Fiona Elkinson, has a background in Jewish education and has taught prayers and Torah to dozens of children, both in person and via zoom, to prepare them for this milestone event. We have had families host services at our own centre, but it is also possible to transport our Torah to other locations. We are also happy to recommend hotels and event spaces; we have longstanding relationships with local businesses.
