President’s Message, October 2020
Firstly, I hope that you are all keeping well. There are a lot more of us traveling away and returning now, and others are enjoying family visiting here. Just to make it clear, we as a Community Centre are keeping strictly to the Guidelines which means that travelers should not attend events at the JCC until a negative Day 8 test. Additionally, if family are exposed to a traveler or visitor before the 8 day negative test, they too should be staying away from the JCC. Let’s be cautious as the ‘fall wave’ seems to be taking hold. Sorry if this upsets any of you, but we must do our part. Stressful times; but we are blessed to be less stressed than others overseas who face much higher risks. Let’s keep it that way! We are lucky to be here.
On October 16th the JCB kicked off a new Building campaign in an effort to purchase a building sometime in the future. We have 4 more years left on our current building lease as it stands right now. WE have up to now focused on our current building but are open to other options too. We shall see where the wind leads us. Some momentum is building right now (pardon the pun) and we hope to have some Community-wide campaign events soon.
So far, we have managed to get $100,000 pledged to the cause by ten different families and counting!! Expect to be contacted in relation to this worthy cause if you have not been contacted already. There will be many opportunities for many of you to participate in different roles!
If you have any good ideas or suggestions or would like to volunteer your help at any future campaign fundraising events.
We are fortunate that a Rabbi has come onto our shores for a couple months of covid respite. Rabbi Devorah has kindly offered to head some Torah Study groups here for us in November and December. Rabbi Devorah used to live in Bermuda and was a very active lay leader when she was here. There are a couple in the evening and a couple at lunch time. RSVP so we can plan for numbers.
See you all soon, B’shalom, Fiona and The Board.
